they will decide when I shower, or sleep" pic.twitter.com/LXMggmM1v0— Amichai Stein (@AmichaiStein1) November 13, 2018 Speaking before the defence minister’s resignation, Mr Netanyahu defended the ceasefire agreement and said the public could not necessarily understand all the reasons for his decision.  “I hear the voices of the residents of the south. Believe me, they are precious to me, their words penetrate my heart. But together with the heads of the security forces, I see the overall picture of Israel's security, which I cannot share with the public,” he said at a ceremony to commemorate David Ben-Gurion, Israel’s first prime minister. "At these moments, leadership is not to do the easy thing; leadership is to do the right thing, even if it is difficult." Hamas immediately hailed Mr Lieberman’s resignation as victory for its fighters. “This is a political victory for Gaza, which caused this political earthquake within the occupation,” the group said.  Mr Lieberman heads Yisrael Beiteinu, a secular Right-wing party which draws its support mainly from Israel’s Russian population. He served as Mr Netanyahu’s chief of staff in the late 1990s but split off from him because he wanted a harder line against the Palestinians.  The 60-year-old, who is originally from Moldova, had a history of making extreme public statements while he was in opposition. He once promised that if he became defence minister he would assassinate Ismail Haniyeh, Hamas’ leader, within 48 hours.  He proved to be more restrained when he actually took over the defence ministry in May 2016 as part of a deal to join Mr Netanyahu’s government but he remained a hawk on Gaza. He previously served as foreign minister in earlier governments. In his resignation statement, he said he had objected to Mr Netanyahu’s decision to allow Qatar to send $15 million in cash to Gaza to pay civil servant salaries.  The prime minister allowed the money into Gaza as part of preliminary talks on reaching a long-term ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. Those talks appear to be in tatters after the violence between Sunday and Tuesday.
